Soups On!

This morning, the harbor was abuzz with paparazzi looking to catch a glimpse of our big star…Chowder! The Rhode Show came down to the Newport Yachting Center to figure out exactly what the Great Chowder Cook-Off is all about. After talking with two of last year’s winners, our Alaskan competitor, and a new local restaurant getting in the mix, we’d say host Ben Hague is convinced that the chowder’s as good as we say it is, and he will be back tomorrow for the main event!

We’ll let the chowdah’ enthusiasts speak for themselves…See you tomorrow!

Calling All Creative Clams!

The competition is heating up, and this year it’s not only in the kitchen! Introducing our Great Chowder Cook-Off T-shirt Design Contest, where anyone is eligible to submit his or her best creative work. The winning design will be featured on the 2010 Knorr® Great Chowder Cook-Off official t-shirt.

The rules are simple – just answer one little question – What would Clyde do?

Submit your best representation of Clyde the Clam and how you think he’s celebrating his return to Newport to kick off Summer 2010. If your design is the cream of the crop, you’ll be a part of our awards ceremony, your Clyde will star on our t-shirts, and you’ll return home with a goodie bag full of swag as well as 2 tickets to the Nantucket Nectars Sunset Music Series show of your choice. Plus, you’ll receive design recognition on our website for all chowda’ lovers to see. Think you’ve got what it takes? Check out our official rules & regs here, and let the creative juices start flowing!

For a little inspiration, we’ve even featured a few of Clyde’s past looks:

So what do you think? Are you clam enough to design our 2010 t-shirt? (We crack ourselves up!) If you have what it takes, be sure to drop by our website and even download a clyde or two. Remember, all entries are due by May 7, 2010. Best of luck!

Clambassador RISD

Hey Harbor Fans!

I wanted to share with you a great video sent over from some of our friends at RISD Caters. You see, we were lucky enough this year that the Brooklyn Chowder Surfer (I love that dude - check out his clam-tastic youTube videos here!) stopped by to sample some delicious chowder, spend the day on the waterfront, and document all the happenings of the 2009 Schweppes Great Chowder Cook-Off. At the end of a rockin’ and rewarding day, the Chowder Surfer himself got up on stage to present a new award for 2009 - the Clambassador Award!

He proclaimed that RISD Caterers deserved the new award “hands down” for the “fresh ingredients” that made it a must chow-down-chowder. RISD, being the clever and creative beings they are, put together this video so we could all share in the journey from lowly chowder-churner to champion. You’ll laugh, you’ll cry, but mostly it just made me hungry and wish for the 2010 Great Chowder Cook-Off to get here faster! Enjoy!

THE CLAM OF THE HOUR

WARNING: This post is not for those who dislike talking clams, festivals, having fun, or eating delicious chowder. Anyone who likes speaking sea creatures, fun events, just plain ol’ having fun, and savoring scrumptious fare, please read on.
Clyde and Friends
Hello Harbor Chatter fans!  Clyde the Clam here. I am unbelievably excited to write the opening post for what is sure to become a world-renowned blog (because I’m on it, of course!).  If you’re not quite sure how you got here, that makes two of us. But to figure out where you are (because you are indeed, here!), check out the About page to read more about Harbor Chatter.

Now, I am one Very Important Clam, so when I was asked to host the opening post, I had to make sure it fit into my schedule.  But as I’m in Newport this week for the Oscars of Chowder, I figured I might stop by and answer some frequently asked questions I get all the time from my most loyal of fans.  Most of these fans are less than 5 feet in height, but who’s a littleneck to discriminate?

So, onto the important stuff.  Like, am I stuffed?  What gets under my shell?  Who is the man behind the clam? And, most importantly, is there even one reason not to attend the Great Chowder Cook-Off this Saturday, June 6th? Read on to find out!
