Did you know your purchase of a ticket to the 34th Great Chowder Cook-Off helped save this Rhode Island summer tradition?
After the sale of the Newport Yachting Center, the original home of the Great Chowder Cook-Off for 33 years, this event was homeless and its future uncertain. The Newport Waterfront Events team worked diligently since last fall to find a new location for this iconic festival. We were fortunate to get approvals from the City of Newport, the DEM and the State of RI to move to Fort Adams State Park on its annual date, the first Saturday in June. These approvals came in late April, but much later than our normal planning timeframe, but we are very pleased that we were able to put together another fun, quality event with ten competitors vying for the best clam and seafood chowders in the region! We are so appreciative of your support of the Great Chowder Cook Off- you are the reason it is returned for its 34th year. Here’s to many more!

Featured on the Food Network and Travel Channel, the legendary Great Chowder Cook-Off officially kicks off summer on Saturday, June 6th at its new waterfront home, Fort Adams State Park! The original and longest running chowder championship draws competitors and crowds from across the country. Attendees enjoy endless samples of traditional and exotic creations and get to vote for their favorites! Winners walk away with overflowing prize pots and bragging rights. Enjoy live entertainment, lots of kids’ activities and a variety of food and beverage offerings for all tastes.

CHOWDAHEAD CLUB - SOLD OUT

The Chowdahead Club is an exclusive-access pass for our hardcore chowder fans.  Membership grants you access to the Chowder Power Hour, a one-hour preview event from 11am-12pm before the gates officially open to the public.  These members can navigate the event before the crowds arrive, meet the chefs, greet participating team members and get the very first tastes of the 2015 chowder creations. Tickets are limited and sell out very quickly.

NEWPORT OYSTER FESTIVAL
The Newport Oyster Festival returns. The best of local shellfish and seafood are presented farmers’ market style, thanks to the Matunuck Oyster Farm.

Some highlights of this include:

  • Delicious oyster varieties from Matunuck Oyster Farm! Event time is 11pm-6pm.
  • Raw Bar (Oysters, Clams and Shrimp Cocktail), Lobster Rolls, and more!
  • Full Bar with Beer, Wine & Cocktails
  • Bistro-style tables and seating
  • On the Oyster Festival Stage:

It may be “all about the chowda,” but what’s a summer day on the Newport waterfront without musical accompaniment? Soak up the sounds of live, island-vibe entertainers found on various stages throughout the day. Our 2015 Entertainment Lineup includes live rock from the Brian Scott Band and everyone’s favorite Rhode Island Reggae Band, The Ravers.

Mom & Dad, bring your littlenecks along to enjoy the day. Kids under age 12 are FREE with a paying adult and there is a lot to see and do!

The Clamcake Chow Down
Chompers of all makes and models are invited to compete at this year’s colossal Clam Cake Chow Down. The crumbs will be flying to conquer a half-dozen delightfully golden clam cakes. Who will claim the crown as the 2015 Clam Cake Chow Down Champion? Come join the competition…and maybe it will be you!

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Q: HOW DO I GET MY TICKETS AND WHEN IS WILL CALL OPEN?

A: Tickets will be available soon – $20 in advance and $25 day of the festival.

It’s easy to grab your tickets! The fastest way to get your tickets is to order online and print them right at home. To order by phone call 1.800.745.3000. A box office and will call will be available on the event day, beginning at 10am.

Q: IF IT RAINS, DOES THE EVENT GO ON?

A: Of course! The event is rain or shine and you are welcome to bring an umbrella if it does rain.

Q: ARE PETS WELCOME AT THE GREAT CHOWDER COOK-OFF?

A: We love those furry friends, but unless they are certified assistance service animals unfortunately we cannot allow them inside the event.

Q: WHAT ARE THE OPTIONS FOR TRANSPORTATION/PARKING?

A: Fort Adams State Park offers limited parking on event days. During the May 9th and May 14th concerts there will be a parking fee charged. For June 6th, the Great Chowder Cook-Off, there will be no parking fee at the Park but there will be other smaller events in the park that day, parking may be limited.
