Featured on the Food Network and Travel Channel, the legendary Polar Seltzer Great Chowder Cook-Off officially kicks off summer in Newport on Saturday, June 7,2014. The original and longest running chowder championship draws competitors and crowds from across the country. Attendees enjoy endless samples of traditional and exotic creations from dozens of restaurants and then vote for the best in three categories: Clam, Seafood and Creative. The winners walk away with overflowing prize pots and bragging rights for the year. Live entertainment, food and bar options, kids’ activities sweeten the deal for all festival-goers.

The Newport Oyster Festival happens right alongside the Chowder Cook-Off on June 7th. The best of local shellfish and seafood are presented farmers’ market style, thanks to the Matunuck Oyster Farm, and paired with beer, spirits and live music. The festival continues into the evening, making it a great after-party following the Chowder awards ceremony and a popular area to explore during the event. Entry is free with your Chowder ticket! To attend the Newport Oyster Festival only (without a Chowder Cook-Off ticket), tickets are only $3 in advance or $5 day-of admission.
Some highlights of this include:
- Seven full hours of delicious beer & spirits paired with Matunuck Oyster Farm oysters! Event time is 12pm-7pm.
- Raw Bar (Oysters, Clams and Shrimp Cocktail), Lobster Rolls, and Fried Oysters, Clams & Scallops

The Clamcake Chow Down Returns
Chompers of all makes and models are invited to compete at this year’s colossal Clam Cake Chow Down. The crumbs will be flying in two fast and furious heats as the best clam cake consumers of the day race to conquer a half-dozen delightfully golden clam cakes the fastest, leading up to the Grand Finale center stage in the Courtyard at 5:45 p.m. Who will claim the crown as the 2014 Clam Cake Chow Down Champion? Come join the competition…and maybe it will be you!

Soak up the sounds of live, island-vibe entertainers found on various stages throughout the day. Our 2014 Entertainment Lineup is booking now. Swing by our kidSTOPS. Make sure mom and dad bring the littlenecks along to enjoy the day. Kids under age 12 are FREE with a paying adult and there is a lot to see and do…crafts, activities, and kids entertainment abound.
Stop & Shop Culinary Stage
After you indulge in all the chowder you can eat, Stop & Shop invites you to join Chef Timothy as he cooks up recipes featuring favorite Stop & Shop products. There will be culinary demos throughout the day, during which you can sample delicious recipes. So grab a seat and see what Stop & Shop has in store for you at the Stop & Shop Culinary Stage.
Take a break from enjoying chowder and see what Amica Insurance has to offer at the Amica Family Fun Area! There are always fun activities available, including a chance for budding young artists to decorate Amica’s “Under the Sea” mural, which will be displayed at the Providence Children’s Museum after the event. The whole family can also strike a pose in the photo booth. So stop by and enjoy some family fun with Amica!
Barefoot Wines wants you to take a break from enjoying chowder and be sure to enjoy wine tastings, and more! Always remember to “Get Barefoot and have a Great Time!”
The Chowdahead Club – SOLD OUT!
The Chowdahead Club is an exclusive-access pass for our hardcore chowder fans. Membership grants you access to the Chowder Power Hour, a one-hour preview event from 11am-12pm before the gates officially open to the public. These members can navigate the event before the crowds arrive, meet the chefs, greet participating team members and get the very first tastes of the 2014 chowder creations. 2014 Chowdahead Club tickets are now sold out!

Steel Appeal is a tropical steel drum duo performing music from laid-back island favorites, gentle bossa novas, smooth jazz standards, classic rock & roll and everything in-between.
Boo City is a creative mix of music styles that merge seamlessly. You might hear Country-Blues and Indie Rock forged in the same song. In another track you will feel Reggae influences with Retro-Soul and Folk elements.
