The dog days of summer are here – but never has the end of summer packed this much punch! Say farewell to the season but go out with a bang with the conclusion of the 2009 Nantucket Nectars Sunset Music Series. Guster is a fan favorite guaranteed to rock the stage and destined to sell out their Friday night show on August 7th. Then Collective Soul cranks things up a notch on Thursday, August 13th with their infectious anthems. And the Temptations top off the trio of talent on Friday, August 21st with Motown tunes that will make you move to the music. Need we say more? What do you have to say? Come down to the Newport Yachting Center on August 29th & 30th to experience the excitement of the Newport Arts Festival! Browse through a colorful marketplace full of fine and functional art on Newport’s scenic waterfront. You’ll view the work of select regional and national artists, including wearable art, wood and glasswork, paintings, photography, pottery and more. Relax and enjoy live music from Celtic to jazz, activities to inspire young imaginations and a delicious food café. Stop by Saturday night to enjoy a special live concert by Twist of Fate and Avi & Celia! Admission is only $3 at the gate and proceeds benefit Looking Upwards, a Middletown-based nonprofit agency dedicated to helping people with developmental disabilities live fulfilling lives. So pull out your inner Picasso and join us for a celebration of all things creative!
What would a Labor Day weekend in Newport be without a celebration of Celtic shenanigans? The annual Newport Waterfront Irish Festival marks its 12th year of tradition and tomfoolery, featuring the best of what’s emerged from the Emerald Isle!Toast to tradition and quench your thirst with a fresh pint of Guinness, celebrating 250 years of proud pours! Enjoy authentic entertainment, including pipe bands, step dancers, and wolfhounds (oh my)! Tap along to time-honored tunes by artists such as Calley McGrane, and revel with Irish rockers like The Killdares and Screaming Orphans. Step-dance your way between five stages and soak in all there is to see at one of the largest Irish cultural celebrations in the country. As summer draws to a close, the Newport Yachting Center embraces the start of the Fall season by kicking our bliss quota into high gear as we usher in a series of supreme events to delight all festival goers. The Irish Festival will reveal its cast of characters September 5th - 7th, then the Newport International Boat Show will steal the spotlight from September 17th – 20th. Tickle your taste buds at the Stop & Shop Taste of Rhode Island October 3rd & 4th, and finish the fall season with true German gusto October 10th – 12th at Oktoberfest!
