The International Chowder Championship is proud to welcome Knorr® as its new title sponsor! And fear not, chowderheads: While the name may have changed, the recipe hasn’t - June 5th promises to deliver the same creamy goodness that you’ve come to expect from the Great Chowder Cook-Off. Start polishing your chowder-spoons now, because the festivities are less than 2 months away!
The competition is heating up, and this year it’s not only in the kitchen! Introducing our Great Chowder Cook-Off T-shirt Design Contest, where anyone is eligible to submit his or her best creative work. The winning design will be featured on the 2010 Knorr® Great Chowder Cook-Off official t-shirt. The rules are simple – just answer one little question – What would Clyde do? Submit your best representation of Clyde the Clam and how you think he’s celebrating his return to Newport to kick off Summer 2010. If your design is the cream of the crop, you’ll be a part of our awards ceremony, your Clyde will star on our t-shirts, and you’ll return home with a goodie bag full of swag as well as 2 tickets to the Nantucket Nectars Sunset Music Series show of your choice. Plus, you’ll receive design recognition on our website for all chowda’ lovers to see. Think you’ve got what it takes? This upcoming July and August just got that much better in downtown Newport. On Saturday, July 24th, multiple-Grammy winners The Blind Boys of Alabama illuminate our waterfront tent with soul as they perform their time-tested blend of southern gospel, heart-tugging ballads and sublime harmonies. On Friday, August 6th, prepare to be awestruck by the swirling majesty of The Machine performs Pink Floyd with the Interstellar Laser Show – a sensory experience you certainly won’t want to miss. The Knorr® Great Chowder Cook-Off is about celebrating all different types of creative, tasty chowder - and not just from New England! This year, Tracy LaBarge from Tracy’s King Crab Shack in Juneau, Alaska, is throwing her fur-lined hat into the ring. She’ll make the trek South this year to share her special Seafood Chowder recipe, full of succulent king crab meat. When asked about her culinary background she honestly said, “My background is in crab; that’s about it. My bisque was a pleasant mistake one day.” We can’t wait to meet Tracy in person, and you can read more about her Alaskan adventure in crabbing here!
